Felix Schoeller, an international manufacturer of specialty paper solutions for a wide range of applications, integrated the KRIS3 system with the industry add-on Recipe Management to improve its efficiency and processes. The tailor-made functionalities, from grade management to traceability, put the producer on the path to the "digital factory".
At the Weißenborn site, the Extruder ET9 machine is used to finish base papers with polyethylene coating, lamination and siliconization for imaging and release liner products. As part of a plant modernization, the existing recipe management system from 2009 was to be replaced on the ET9. The aim of the modernization was also to achieve a higher level of digitalization. KRIKO Engineering was to provide a needs-based alternative for this.
The customer's challenge
The manual processing of work orders in paper form and entry of the results in other systems was still common practice at Felix Schoeller. This is cumbersome, error-prone, inefficient and makes traceability and reproducibility difficult. A digital solution should simplify these processes.
Requirements for KRIKO
The system to be implemented should be networked and include the following functions:
Recipe management for production and cleaning processes
Traceability of the target values run to the varieties (tracking)
Generate best value recipe from online values (snapshot function)
Tabular or logically grouped parameter sets
Secure operation thanks to access rights and download options for sensitive parameter groups
Fast project planning without time-consuming data point maintenance
Recording of produced materials, quantities and use of auxiliary materials
The KRIKO solution
KRIKO integrated the KRIS3 systemwith the industry add-on recipe management into the existing PCS 7 automation programs and visualizations. Communication with the ERP system was also made possible. Simple installation and system updates as well as direct customer support were guaranteed. The solution is now in stable use and supports production.
The recipe system is now also running at other Felix Scholler sites in Osnabrück, Titisee-Neustadt and Pulaski (USA).
Digital factory solutions are a cornerstone of digital business transformation. We support new manufacturing technologies and production concepts as a partner for end-to-end automation.
