This is exactly what happens when a Duoshaker is used for the breast roll on the fourdrinier wire of a paper machine. It ensures an oscillating movement of the wire in the cross direction to the paper flow direction. This movement prevents the fibers from becoming too strongly oriented in just one direction – the fibers are distributed more homogeneously – which improves the tensile strength and uniformity of the paper. The Duoshaker moves the wire in two directions, hence the name “Duo” – in contrast to simple shakers, which only vibrate in one direction.

These are regulated by two eccentrically arranged flywheels, where the offset angle determines the stroke and the speed determines the frequency.
